Social Work Legislative Day Paper

Students will participate in a Legislative Day sponsored by either the NASW-SC on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 8:30 to 11:45 am at the South Carolina State House. Select a current bill from SC State Legislature’s Session 123, 2019-2020. Session that fits best with your area of social welfare policy interest, write a summary of the bill, and argue either for or against the proposed legislation. In addition, prior to the event, write a set of talking points to use for lobbying, and make a list of elected officials and advocacy groups who support your position.

This assignment has four components:

    1. Prepare a summary of the bill, including reasons for your support or opposition (2 pages),
    2. Develop talking points to use for lobbying (1 page),
    3. Provide list of elected officials and advocacy groups who support your position on selected bill (1 page), and
    4. Reflect on what you learned regarding advocacy and the legislative process, identify specific activities engaged in, and include any interactions with legislators and/or legislative aides (2-3 pages).

I will attach the itinerary and a summary of events after a tutor is selected.
