  • Analyze the key management skills discussed in Chapter 14 to determine which you believe are the most important for a successful hospitality and tourism manager to possess. Provide specific examples to support your response.
  • Analyze the trends in leadership and management to determine which ones will have the most influence on the HTM industry in the next 5-10 years. Explain your rationale.

Analyze the key management skills discussed in Chapter 14:

Planning- Managers must develop plans to reach and exceed company’s goals.

Organizing- Plans must be organized in what to be done to reach the company’s goals, who will do it and who will report to whom.

Communication- Managers must be able to communicate with their team, so that everyone is informed on the process needed to meet the company’s goals.

Motivating managers must be able to motivate their employees to reach the goals.

Controlling- setting standards for the goals and comparing results of the standards.

Conceptual Skills- enable managers to view the entire corporation and understand how departments should be split to reach company goals.

Technical Skills- managers must understand use new technology software and equipment.

Human Skills – interpersonal skills are required managers must interact with employees through communication, and motivate them. Build teams and create loyalty.
