Borderline personality disorder is diagnosed much more often in women than in men in clinical settings, but epidemiological (e.g., incidence) studies of the general public show it to be only slightly more prevalent in women than men. Do you think gender biases in clinicians’ applications of the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder might account for more women than men being diagnosed in clinical settings? Why or why not?
